Cyclones advance to Region XIII Championship, face Century Saturday

The Cyclones came from behind in dramatic fashion in the bottom of the 9th to score 3 runs stay unbeaten in the NJCAA Region XIII baseball tournament against Century College.  The Wood Ducks got on the board first in the 5th inning with a solo homerun.  The Cyclones got on the board in the their half of the 5th inning by taking advantage of 2 Century errors.  The Cyclones scored 3 when everything was said and done.  Jinkins reached on an error, Rodriguez singled, Pereira reached on a throwing error which scored Jinkins. Ethan Carlson drove in Rodriguez on a Sacrifice Fly.  Massa Ortiz singled in Pereira.  The Wood Ducks got back to 3-2 with back to back doubles in the 6th inning.  The Cyclones would inch their lead to 2 runs in the 7th inning.  Fuecker's Sacrifice Fly scored Rodriguez.  The Wood Ducks put up 4 runs in the top of the 8th inning with a pair of two run home runs.

In the 9th inning, The Cyclones rally began with 1 out.  Ethan Carlson singled.  Luis Massa Ortiz tied the game with a 2-run home run.  Fuecker doubled, Quade was intentionally walked.  Reyes singled.  Aleshire reached on a fielder's choice, but Fuecker was forced out at home.  Alex Jinkins singled home the winning run on a ball to right field.

Brad White picked up the win with a gutty pitching performance.  White threw all 9 innings for the Cyclones.

 

The Win put the Cyclones into the Region XIII Championship game.  Century defeated Northland to gain entry into the Region Championship.

 

First pitch is scheduled for 1pm at Putz Field.
