BSB: Funk, Massa named NJCAA All-Americans

Will Funk (Fr. Sauk Centre, MN) was named to the NJCAA All-America First Team while his teammate Luis Massa Ortiz (So. San Lorenzo, PR) was named to the 2nd team. Massa Ortiz is a repeat selection, as he earned All American honors as a Freshman in 2018.  Massa joins Ryan Schneider (2011-2012, Baseball) and Chloe Callahan (2016-2017, Softball) as the other 2 time All-Americans in Cyclones athletics history.

Funk proved to be a jack of all trades for the Cyclones this spring playing defensively in the outfield as well as 2nd base and 3rd base.  Funk, who was named Region 13 player of the year, let the dynamic Cyclones offense as well.  He led the team in batting average (.457), Home runs (7), and hits (58).  He stole 22 bases and scored 50 runs while driving in 44 of his own.

Massa Ortiz picked up where he left off during the 2018 campaign providing the punch in the middle of the lineup. 29 of his 56 hits were extra bases (20 doubles,2 triples, and 7 home runs).  Luis drove in 60 runs during the 2019 campaign while scoring 51 times himself.  Massa Ortiz slugged .802 for the season which was good enough for 6th in the country.

The Cyclones won the MCAC Central Division with an undefeated division record.  The Cyclones went on to be Region Runner's up losing in the 12th inning against Century in the winner take all game.  The Cyclones finished the season 36-7 who finished 31-2 after starting 5-5 during their spring trip.
