Cyclones Outlast Madison In Overtime

Saturday afternoon, the SCTCC Cyclones faced off against Madison Area CC in the second game of the Anoka-Ramsey Tipoff Classic.  The two teams last saw each other a year ago in a game that went to overtime with the Cyclones coming out on top 104-99.  This season's game had a the same result as the Cyclones came away with a 114-111 overtime win.

The two teams were evenly matched throughout as the game saw 6 ties and 10 lead changes.  The Cyclones played solid defense through the first half, creating 11 turnovers and converting their defense into offense.  The halftime score was 46-39 in favor of SCTCC.  The team was led by sophomore guards Paul Coleman and Eric Racine who were the only two Cyclones in double figure with 11 and 10 points respectively.  Sophomore Torez Kinchen and freshman London Williams also contributed 7 points a piece.

SCTCC would jump out to a 16 point advantage 64-48 with 14 minutes remaining, but Madison began to hit a series of 3 pointers to get themselves back into the game.  With just over 3 minute remaining in regulation the game was tied at 88.  The teams battled back and forth down the stretch and a late game foul on a 3 point attempt sent Madison to the line with a chance to win the game.  Madison was only able to connect on 2-3 free throws and the game was sent to overtime with the score tied at 99 all.

Madison built a 3 point lead 106-103 with 3 minutes left in overtime, but the Cyclones would finish the game with an 11-5 run to close out the 114-111 win.

Eric Racine led the way with a record breaking performance of 40 points (13-21FG, 13-15FT, 8 rebs, 5 ast, 5 stls).  The previous record was held by Riley West in his 36 point game vs Western Tech in 2013.  Paul Coleman added 28 points and Taye Carter and Kinchen supplied 14 points a piece. Box Score
