Rothstein, Rose lead the way in Sweep over #3 Rochester

The Cyclones Softball team earned a sweep over Rochester on Friday afternoon at River's Edge Park. With the wins, the Cyclones improved to 13-8 overall and 3-1 in the MCAC South.

In Game one, The Cyclones proved to be cardiac kids in a come from behind victory.  The Yellowjackets jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the 2nd inning.  The Cyclones plated one in the 2nd inning when Bailey Bergeron drove in Jill Rothstein.  The teams each scored 3 runs in the 4th inning bringing the score to 6-4.

Janae Myers scored when Katie Heinen reached on an error.  Holly Schumacher and Heinen then scored on a Lexi Rose double.  The Cyclones loaded the bases but were unable to get any closer.

The Cyclones mounted their charge in the 6th and 7th innings.  Heading into the home half of the 6th, the Cyclones trailed 8-5.  Rothstein started the offense with a single to centerfield.  Megan Johnson drove her in with a double.  Kassidy Klaphake made the most of her pinch hitting opportunity with a double over the left fielders head scoring Johnson.  The Cyclones couldn't muster any more in the 6th and trailed 8-7 heading to the last inning.

The 7th inning started with two quick outs.  Down to their last out, Katie Heinen singled to Rightfield. Lexi Rose tied the game with a triple that one hopped off the right field fence.  Jill Rothstein once again came up clutch with a "single" in the left center field gap.  Heidi Shelton threw all 7 innings and earned the victory.

Game 2

Starting right where they left off the Cyclones batted around in the first inning scoring 5.  Megan Johnson had the loudest hit of the inning with a 3 run opposite field homerun.  In a role reversal from game one, The Yellowjackets chipped away at the deficit scoring 2 in the second inning, 1 in the fourth, 2 in the fifth and 2 in the sixth to tie the game at 8.

After the Yellowjackets tied the game in the top of the 6th, the Cyclones struck back.  Kristie Hennen led the inning off with a line drive single.  She then stole second base.  Bailey Bergeron singled to right field.  Janae Myers hit a hard grounder to the shortstop who couldn't handle it.  At the end of the play, Hennen had scored, Bergeron was on 3rd and Myers stood at 2nd.  The Cyclones weren't able to build a larger lead, but Lexi Rose who threw two innings of relief, shut the door on the Yellowjackets.  Rose picked up the win, Kassidy Klaphake started and threw the first 5 innings.
