2017 - 18 Women's Basketball Season Preview

2017 - 18 Women's Basketball Season Preview

James Fassett has been hired as the next Head Women's basketball coach to lead this program to new heights. Coach Fassett has been around the MCAC for several years and is known to be a hardworking recruiter as well as a coach that has been a part of successful programs in our league. Coach Fassett has accepted the challenge and if his history is any indicator of future success, SCTCC women's basketball is in good hands.

The 2017 -18 season will be looking for growth and to establish SCTCC women's basketball as a strong contender in the southern division of the MCAC conference. Coming off a six win season the team has 7 incoming players, but will be lead by it's 3 sophomore players. Rian Lee (Paynesville) will be a strong contributor in the post and on the boards. Rian works hard defensively and will be an important part of an offense that will be fast moving and looking to score a lot of points. Ashley Cassens (Milaca) will lead from the guard position in pushing the ball and creating the tempo we need to play with. Ashley and Rian both will be great positive leaders for our incoming players to learn from on and off the court. Makayla Paggen (Milaca) comes to us from Anoka Ramsey CC. Makayla has been a good player in this league and will be threat from behind the arc every time she touches the ball.

Our incoming group show the kind of diversity in student/athlete this level of basketball has come to know. Junior College basketball affords many players the opportunity to pursue basketball that may have come from non-traditional student or athletic backgrounds. Rachel Vreeland, Amaya Murray, Yusra Jara, Brooklyn Harren come to us from their high school programs as incoming freshman. Andrea Vermeer, Cynthia Walker, and Lashay Howard transfer in as college students that are looking to get back on the court again.

These 10 players will lead this program to new heights and will work hard to begin a legacy of basketball at SCTCC for years to come. This task will not be easy. We boast a schedule that will see several nationally ranked teams at different levels of the Junior college system. The MCAC has proven to be a national powerhouse conference year in and year out. If we want to recognized as a national contender, we will have to go out each and every night against tough competition and prove ourselves. There is no better place to do that than right here in Minnesota playing the likes of Anoka Ramsey (7 time)national champion. Northand Community College, a proven national powerhouse. Also on the schedule this year is Madison Area CC that has a national championship hanging in their rafters as well. We will also compete against D1 and D2 level programs throughout our season.

We look forward to your support.
