WBB: Cyclones pick up their first Conference Win

The Cyclones notched their first conference win with a convincing 86-44 win over Riverland CC Wednesday night at Whitney Center.  Five Cyclones finished in double figures.  Freshman Rachel Vreeland led the team in scoring notching a team high 15 points.  Makayla Paggen scored 14 with most of her damage being done behind the 3 point line.  Amaya Murray finished with 13 points, Ysura Jara came off the bench to finish with 12 and Rian Lee notched a double double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.  For the game, the Cyclones shot a season high 52% from the field while making 10 3-point field goals, also a season high.  The Cyclones were dominant on the boards out rebounding Riverland by 17 (45-28) including 11 offensive rebounds.  Ashley Cassens led the team in assists with 7.  The Cyclones bench stepped up Wednesday contributing 24 points.

 

 

The Cyclones got out to a quick start against the Blue Devils jumping out to a 31-13 after a quarter.  The Cyclones shot an amazing 77% from the field.  The Cyclones turned up the defense in the second quarter forcing 5 Blue Devil turnovers and limiting them to 9 points.  The Cyclones grew their lead to 46-22 at the halftime intermission.  The Cyclones picked up right where they left off to begin the second half.  The stiflig defense held the Blue Devils to 6 3rd quarter points who shot 14% for the quarter.  On the offensive end, the Cyclones scored 24 points and shot 45% growing their lead to as many as 44 points.  The teams traded baskets in the 4th quarter.

 

The Cyclones travel to Anoka Ramsey CC on Saturday to take on the upstart Golden Rams at 1pm in Coon Rapids.  Anoka Ramsey has gotten off to a fast start in conference play at 3-0.  The Cyclones at 1-2 are looking to rise in the competitive MCAC South standings.  The Basketball teams return home Wednesday, January 24th when they host Western Tech (WI).  Game time at Whitney Center us 5:45pm.
