Cyclones go 3-1 in tough week of competition
Wednesday the Cyclones faced the #3 Warriors of Ridgewater who were also 8-2 overall, 2-0 in the MCAC South. The Cyclones battled and were victorious 3-1. Kalie Jergens, sophomore outside hitter from Becker, led in kills with 14, Kalli Mathiasen, sophomore setter from St Cloud Apollo, ran the offense with 34 set assists. Chelsea Schroeder, sophomore libero from Rocori, led in digs with 22. Jergens and Madeleine Geislinger, first year defensive specialist from Eden Valley-Watkins both earned 3 service aces, while Anastasia Larson, first year middle hitter from Big Lake, added 5 blocks.
Friday the Cyclones traveled to Lacrosse, WI to take on the Western Tech. The Cyclones took the match 3-0. Jergens led in kills with 14 while Mathiasen earned 32 set assists and 3 service aces. Schroeder defended the court with 16 digs and Rachel Owens, first year middle from St Francis, added 2 blocks.
Saturday the Cyclones trekked to Wilmar to face two Division II teams at the Ridgewater Tournament. First the Cyclones faced nationally ranked Northeast Nebraska but fell 0-3 against their solid defense. Jergens produced 10 kills and Mathiasen generated 26 set assists. Schroeder led in digs with 18 and Larson added 4 blocks.
In the second match versus Iowa Lakes the Cyclones earned a win in their first 5 set match of the season. Jergens added 17 kills and 3 service aces, while Mathiasen earned 44 set assists. Schroeder earned 28 digs while Larson was a threat at the net with 5 blocks.
The Cyclones are now 11-3 overall, 4-0 in the MCAC South, currently ranked 8th in the national poll.
The Cyclones are at home this week against 2 conference opponents; Wednesday, Sept 20th at 6:30pm versus M-State Fergus Falls and at home on Friday, Sept 22nd at 6:30pm versus Anoka.
