Awards and Records for 2018 Volleyball Season

The Minnesota College Athletic Conference highlighted 3 Cyclones throughout the season as Players of the Week which go to 4 players a week among the 16 volleyball teams in the MCAC.  Grace Mauersberger, Rilee Hohbein and Paige Serbus were awarded the honors of MCAC Player of the Week and all three athletes also earned MCAC All-Conference honors. Hohbein also earned a spot on the MCAC All-Region team.  Jenna Scott earned MCAC South All-Tournament Team for the Cyclones at the Region Tournament.

The highly coveted Best Teammate Award, voted on by team members, was awarded to Jenna Scott and Grace Mauersberger.  Their teammates stated that both of these athletes were, "hard workers, positive and always lifting up their teammates, but the biggest thing that set them apart was that they did not have to be lifted up by their teammates.  They always took care of their own attitudes and body language on the court, even if they were not playing their best match.  We didn't have to spend energy and effort lifting them up- they took care of that, which is tough to do all of the time."

The Cyclones broke several records this season including team digs per set for a season (21.54), and team hitting percentage for a match (.407) against MN West. Hohbein broke the individual record for single match hitting percentage hitting a .647 against MN West and the individual single season hitting percentage (.339).

The Cyclones had an exciting season finishing fourth in the MCAC South with a record of 11-11 with an all first year team. Coach Heidi Smith, concluding her 8th season, states, "this team was one of the most fun that I have coached in a long time and I am excited for the 2019 season.   Having many returners, that are all great teammates and athletes, we will be able to start where we left off in 2018!"
