2019 Cyclone Volleyball Season Preview

The 2019 Cyclone Volleyball team is ready to start their season!  The Cyclones have 9 returners, which is an unusually high amount of experience returning for an NJCAA volleyball team.  The Cyclones also add one red-shirt transfer and 5 first year athletes to the roster. 

The Cyclones sophomores include setters Jenna Scott from Holidngford and Paige Serbus from Redwood Valley, who earned a combined 712 set assists last season.  All-Region middle hitter, Rilee Hohbein from Holdingford, led the conference in hitting percentage in 2018 with a .349.  Grace Mauersberger, outside hitter from St Michael-Albertville, was also an All-Region selection, led the Cyclones with 235 kills. Tori Nelson, from New London Spicer, led the Cyclones in digs with 362.  Additional sophomores for the Cyclones include Tyanna Wilson from St Cloud Apollo, Madison Hall from Minnewaska, Megan Schoborg from St Cloud Tech high school and Hannah Towne from Isle.   

Transferring into the Cyclones volleyball program is Kamryn D'Heilly from Annandale. First year athletes include Jessica Schoborg from St Cloud Tech high school, Alex Wright from Coon Rapids, Sela Backstrom from Grand Marias, Carly Milan from Milaca and Shelby Coombs from Aitkin. 

"I am excited for the returning leadership this season. Our 9 returners are not just great volleyball players, but amazing people and awesome teammates! The 6 first-year athletes fit right in so I am excited to see what we can do!" states Heidi Smith, entering her 9th season as the Cyclones head coach.

The Cyclones open their 2019 season hosting the MCAC Crossover Tournament at the St Cloud Whitney Center.  Friday, August 23rd the Cyclones take on Northland Community and Technical College at 12:00pm and Rainy River Community College at 6:00pm.  Saturday, August 24th the Cyclones face Hibbing Community College at 9:00am and Central Lakes College at 3:00pm.
