Cyclones Open Season 2-0
The SCTCC Women's Basketball team took to the road this past weekend and came out with a couple of wins. After not playing last year because of Covid, the Cyclones traveled to Anoka-Ramsey CC (Coon Rapids, MN) and opened their 2021-22 campaign, facing Madison Area Tech College on Friday night and Gogebic Community College Saturday morning.
On Friday, SCTCC opened their season with a 58-48 win over Madison. The Cyclones came out nervous and hesitant, resulting in not shooting the ball very well, just 25% for the game. Despite the shooting struggles, the team continued to work hard and only trailed by 3 at the half, 28-25. A dominating 19-6 third quarter in favor of the Cyclones allowed SCTCC to take a 44-34 lead into the last period where they would see out the victory to start the season 1-0. All 11 players who saw the floor for the Cylcones scored and they were led by Erin Knisley (New London-Spicer, MN) who recorded a double-double in her first collegiated game with 18 points, 15 rebounds and 6 blocks.
The Cyclones returned to the court just 15 hours later for a 10:00 AM tip against Gogebic. This time the team respond with great effort and good shooting and took a 10 point lead at the half, 46-36. SCTCC would build the lead to as many as 16, but Gogebic fought hard to cut the lead to just 3 with about 4 minutes left in the game. The ladies gathered themselves and responded by extending the lead back to 11 until a last second shot cut the score to 82-73 and end the weekend at 2-0. The Cyclones were paced by Gabby Weber (Zimmerman, MN) with 21 points, 8 rebounds and 2 blocks. Erin Knisley just missed another double-double with 13 point and 9 rebounds. Allison Fritz (Norwood Young-America, MN) added 11 points and Jackie Lindsay (Belgrade, MN) contributed 10. Ah'Janay Yancy (Minneapolis, MN) and Demya Riley (St. Paul, MN) both scored 9 each.
The team returns to the court on Friday, Nov 19th, when they travel to Collegeville, MN to take on College of St. Benedict's JV team. Tip is at 7:00 PM.
