Cyclones start season with a win

The 2023 Cyclone Volleyball team competed in their first match of the season on Friday, August 18th in Virginia, MN. The Cyclones traveled to MN North Campus- Mesabi Range, who they beat last year in the Region Tournament. The Cyclones were victorious again in 5 sets against a well matched team.

The Cyclones lost the first set 22-25 and came back to win the 2nd set 25-15. Each point was a battle, and the match was close every point that followed.  Set 3 was Mesabi's 25-20, Cyclones came back and won the 4th 25-22. The 5th set was point for point with the Cyclones coming out on top 15-13.

Kills: Paige Rupp (sophomore, outside hitter from BBE)-19, Kailee Beck (sophomore, rightside hitter from Spectrum)-15, Emily Kemp (sophomore, middle hitter from Eveleth)- 14
Set Assists: Aria Peters (first year, setter from YME)- 32, Olivia Mortenson (first year, setter from Kimball)- 20
Digs: Kylie Winter (sophomore, libero from BBE)- 47, Talimai Cornillez (sophomore, outside from STMA)- 21
Blocks: Kailee Beck- 9, Emily Kemp-7, Josie Hiltner (first year, middle from EVW)-6
Service Aces: Kylie Winter-4

"It was a great match to start the season!" states head coach Heidi Smith in her 12th season at SCTCC. "We were very evenly matched, and it was a great battle to see what this young team can do! Its going to be another fun year!"

This week the Cyclones travel to Alexandria Tech and attend the Anoka-Ramsey Tournament. The SCTCC Cyclones first home match is Wednesday, August 30th, 6:30pm at the St Cloud Whitney Center.
